An Evolution Map
After going through the above design research projects, it was complicated to decide which tools, as a designer should select for this design research. It was challenging as a designer to choose which tool can the appropriate for this research. Evolution map helped in breaking down the designers work into four different aspects design lead, expert mindset, research lead, and participatory mindset set.
Under these aspects, there were many subdivisions such as critical design, generative research, human factors and ergonomics, usability testing lead, user innovation design + emotion and applied ergonomics, etc. The tools, which were selected earlier, were placed under these subdivisions, which made a clear perspective of developing a human centric research project. The Map eased in fragmenting the idea and tools, which can be appropriate for this project and as a designer made me, think what should do and what not to do. Sanders, L. (2008). ON MODELING An evolving map of design practice and design research. interactions, 15(6), p.13.
To create a better human centric design, it is important to understand your stakeholders in a design research. For better human centric design, the tools should be designed more towards participatory approach. Each tool was further narrow down in three different concepts, what your participants say, use and feel. The tools, which were chosen, previously were not satisfactory. Tools from various other projects were listed out and started marking which tool can fall under which aspect of what participants say, use and feel. The tools listed were the map of social tree, the map of places, mood journal, graph, question card, postcard, calendar, community wall and visual diary. Started marking what kinds of data these listed tools can provide to the designer to understand the participants.
